How It Started
“My background was old school: studio apprentice, assistant engineer, in-house engineer, freelance engineer, and finally producer.
Audio newsgroups and forums became a passion.
On Gearspace, professionals and hobbyists alike are united by wanting to share the latest info on pro audio gear and the experiences of using it.
By 2004 traffic started to snowball, but server charges did as well, so I introduced advertising to help cover costs.

Meet Our Team

“US born (1960), moved to London, UK aged nine. I’m a huge Rolling Stones fan (still) and played guitar in several small punk and new wave bands who recorded one album and one single. A friend got a job at a recording studio and I followed him into the business. I started at the bottom, mopping floors and running to get sandwiches. Then assisting on sessions and became an in house engineer of a three room SSL facility.
I left after six years to freelance in the UK and Europe as an engineer and producer. Career highlights; The Lemonheads “Mrs. Robinson” single, (Gold US and UK) Siouxsie & The Banshees “Cities in Dust” single, Momus “The Poison Boyfriend” Album. I founded Gearspace in 2002 as a hobby.

“Born 1992 in Watford, a town just outside London. I’ve always had a passion for music from a young age – my mother and father both had a wide range of musical tastes which influenced my appreciation of sound. Since my mid teenage years I have been experimenting in music production on Apple’s Logic.
I mainly experiment with hip-hop style productions but also play around with alternative, ambient compositions. I hope to progress onto a professional production platform in the future and enjoy listening to nearly every genre of music, but some key genres I like to play regularly would be soul, electronic and hip-hop. Aside from work and music interests, I’m a keen traveller and foodie so I enjoy seeing as much of the world as it has to offer!
If you have any questions about advertising on Gearspace please get in touch.”

“Born 1980 in Ireland to a family of musicians. I play Guitar and Piano. I enjoy most musical genres but am a big CCR fan. I first got hooked on home recording at age fourteen when I started on a what was then a very modest setup by today’s standards. I played in a few small bands but quickly found my real love lay in the creating/recording side of things. As a result, I have amassed a collection of various instruments and gear over the years that specifically suits my needs. I have a keen interest in musical technology and make a point of keeping up to date with all the latest new product releases. After lurking on Gearspace.com for many years, I finally made a user account in 2011 and never looked back.”

“Born 1981 in Bangalore, India into a family of musicians. I played music through college while I went on to becoming a mechanical engineer. I worked in the US with American Express for five years while I played music in churches whilst learning from an expert drummer. One morning I realised that I could not do music on a small scale anymore and so quit my job and moved back to India. I played with some big bands in the country such as Moksha and The Raghu Dixit Project among others. Now, I have formed my own band, Peepal Tree, where I play the drums and also manage the band. When I’m not busy with my band I do sessions for other bands and movies. Gearspace came to me as a blessing in 2009 and I’ve loved it here ever since.”

“Born 1978 in the middle of Canada, I started my “proper career life” working in film production, working mainly in camera and lighting for various filmmakers including Guy Maddin, before making a documentary which toured significant film festivals in NYC, London, LA and more. In 2004 to I moved to London and continued as a freelance filmmaker – until spending too much time on Gearspace to feed an avid guitar/recording habit led to my GS enlistment. When I’m not wrangling with reported posts or Facebook pages I enjoy cooking, hanging out with my cats and noodling around on those aforementioned guitars. I Love all kinds of music but spend a lot of my time with old Steely Dan records on in the background.”

“Born 1970 in London I moved to LA in the late 80’s and began working in the music industry there. I came back to the UK in the late 90’s and formed a band that did ok and I spend the next five years recording and touring which is where I fell in love with the idea of music production. I decided I’d rather be behind the glass than on the stage so I started a couple of record labels with some friends and then later opened studios in the UK & US which allowed me to justify buying way too many instruments/consoles/mics etc while also getting to work with some cool bands and artists. Gearspace has always been my favourite place to learn about and discuss both new and vintage gear.”

“Born in 1981 in Brazil and living for the most part of my life in the city of Belo Horizonte, where Milton Nascimento, Sepultura and many other greats started their careers. I started dwelling with studios back in 1998 as an assistant while also playing drums for local metal bands, but it all changed around 2004, when I first got some gear to start a home studio and started producing electronic music. Shortly after that I met Gearspace, which was mind-blowing as I had few reliable sources of information for recording equipment in my country. I’ve also got a degree in History and worked for many years on that field but the passion for music and gear always had a great pull on me, and since 2012 I’ve been running Gearspace Reviews, Deal Zone and Best Studio Gear sections.”
